Patients looking to improve the size and shape of their chin can have chin implants surgery to achieve their desired results. Chin implants or chin augmentation is a plastic surgery procedure that is designed to add volume to the patient’s face ultimately providing him or her with a more balanced and appealing look. The surgery is often combined with other facial implants such as cheek implants and jaw implants.
The surgery itself is rather short compared to other procedures and usually takes anywhere from ½ hour – 1 hour. The surgeon will make an incision through the lower lip where he or she will insert the implant into the area of the chin. Sometimes the surgeon will make the incision below the chin but due to the visibility of the scar it is usually not the case. After the implant is positioned the opening is closed using absorbable sutures and the patient will begin the recovery process.
The recovery for chin implant surgery is a little milder than most other procedures. The patient will experience some pain for the first day accompanied by swelling and bruising which usually lasts a week but can last several in some cases. It is recommended that cold ice packs are applied to the area to reduce swelling and quicken the healing process.
The cost of this surgery is anywhere from $2,000-$4,000, although it is often combined with other facial implants in order to save money by avoiding multiple trips to the operating table.
