The Traditional Facelift is a cosmetic surgery procedure performed in order to tighten and shape the face of an individual to provide for a more youthful appearance. Traditional face lifts require a larger incision than their counterpart the Limited Incision Facelift. The procedure is performed by making an incision behind and in front of the ear extending to the hairline of the patient. The skin and muscle tissue are lifted from the face using a scalpel. The excess skin is removed and facial tissue is redistributed and reshape to the plastic surgeon’s discretion. The deeper layers of the face may also be tightened with sutures before the skin is re-draped over the face and closed up.

Typically the Traditional Facelift is performed on older individuals whose facial skin begins to sag. It is often times performed in addition to other surgical procedures including cheek implants, a brow lift, and blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery.

The surgery itself can take anywhere from 2-4 hours and prices range from $5,000-$20,000 in general. It is recommended that a patient be in good health and a non smoker in order to receive a facelift. Since the procedure is a major surgery, recovery time is long and arduous taking up to 2 weeks before a patient can even return to work.
