Fermale Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammoplasty)

Female breast reduction Surgery is a cosmetic surgery performed in order to reduce the size of the female breasts. Breast reduction surgery is almost always performed on women, however in certain cases men will receive the procedure; see male breast reduction for more information.

Female breast reduction is performed a number of ways. The most common method of breast reduction for women is the Pedicle Method which involves leaving the nipple attached to the breast during surgery. The free nipple graft is performed by taking the nipple completely off the breast during surgery and can result in the loss of sensation in the nipple area. In all cases, the breast is made smaller by removing any excess skin, fat or glandular tissue. The breast is reshaped and the nipple is repositioned. Often times a breast lift is performed in conjunction with the breast reduction in order to provide a more aesthetically pleasing look.

The procedure typically lasts for 2-4 hours. The patient is almost always under anesthesia. Although in most cases the patient will not stay overnight, there are certain times when a one night stay is required. The cost of a female breast reduction varies greatly and can typically range anywhere from $3,000- $10,000. Recovering from female breast reduction takes about a month and the breasts will not take on their permanent shape until anywhere from six months to one and a half years.
