Lower Eyelid Surgery (Lower Blepharoplasty)

Lower eyelid surgery is almost always a cosmetic procedure. The surgery is often times done in conjunction with upper eyelid surgery, a face lift and or a brow lift. One of the major reasons for getting lower eyelid surgery is to remove the tired look of excess wrinkly skin below the eyes often referred to as crow’s feet. When performing a lower eyelid surgery, the surgeon will make an incision along the lash line of the lower eyelid. Excess skin and fat is removed and the incision is closed up. The patient can expect to feel mild pain and discomfort along with a feeling of tightness around the eyes for the first week. Bruising will typically last up to 2 weeks and swelling can take much longer to go away.

Eyelid surgery is a relatively quick procedure taking anywhere from an hour to three hours. Patients usually receive a sedative and general anesthetic. The cost of the procedure will vary depending upon the patients needs and location but prices usually stay within the range of $3,000-$5,000.
